AGUARDIENTE | THE CLIMATE CRISIS
A collaborative studio project with Salomon Calderon + Roberta De Leon in Lorcan O’Herlihy’s 402B studio | Spring 2020
La Plata, a city located on the outskirts of Buenos Aires, Argentina, is facing the consequences of climate change. Over the past 20 years, the region has experienced increased storm surge floods from Arroyo del Gato River causing millions worth of structural damage and lives lost. With three interventions: river, stadium, and housing, we have developed a master plan to mitigate river overflow alongside creating dynamic social spaces for the community.

BIOPHILIA | RIVER
The river both as a social space and a green buffer is transformed into a park boardwalk where four canals are created to re-direct the flow into the housing complexes. With the boardwalk and mounds as a defense mechanism for over-flooding, the once uncared for area is re-thought of as landscape architecture as a social act.

OSMOSIS | DWELLING
The courtyard typology of the housing units furthermore reinforces the idea of community and family that characterizes the Argentinian culture. The courtyard, apart from collecting water and cooling the building, provides a semi-private exterior space that encourages socialization.
AGRITENTION |STADIUM
The stadium intervention makes use of the vacant land surrounding the stadium in order to produce a landscape condition that retains and purifies water. The program includes agricultural terraces, urban parks, and recreational sports facilities.
